Applying reception theory

The hegemonic reading of this poster is that 50 cent is trying to spread a good message of being yourself and not to care what over people think. This is marketing for Reebok trying to say be unique wearing their clothing. This juxtaposes the fact of being yourself as they are wearing a brand to represent themselves but this is what Reebok wanted so people would feel unique wearing their brand and want more. But people would read it as 50 cent is telling us to be unique so we should which is a good message.

The negotiated reading is that 50 cent used to be a person who had spontaneously did a lot of bad stuff to survive like sell drugs and he is telling us to be unique but could on the other represent to change and become a better person. I t would be ironic if a ex drug dealer told u to be unique.

The negative reading of this is that we need Reebok or a big brand to be different and unique especially when big brands like Reebok usually price their clothing high. So they are saying if you have for our brand u can be unique which is wrong and a bad interpretation to view it.

Image result for nike basketball advertisement
The hetromonic reading of this is a good message of Nike spreading the message basketball is forever so like the game you need to keep trying. This is a positive message and attracts and even teens to keep playing basketball and become better. So this poster is aimed to eye catch teens so they can become more active and play basketball.

The negotiated reading of this is that yeah it supports people to play basketball but at the same time you need the Nike brand to be good at it. This is what Nike are trying to do so people will buy their brand and they become more successful.

The negative meaning is that why is their only a black person playing and not any other ethnicity. This is not fair as it reinforces the stereotype/myth that only black people are good at basketball. This is what Nike shows and represents.

Reading an image

The image firstly has only black and white colors to create a serious atmosphere almost as if 50 cent the rapper is trying to send a message. Also the color of black and white are being equally distributed which shows how this poster also supports the fact of equal rights.

Moreover, the image of 50 cent is to the left so readers of the image finds it eye-catching as it is the first thing they read going from left to the right cause that's how traditional books read in so the poster was to first get the attention of others.

The image takes up half of the page so we know its equally important to the text on the left. The inspirational quote is reflecting the life of 50 cent so the text and image work and in hand together to paint the poster.

The font of the text is a San serif font to show the informality of the poster and how its trying to be modern as more and more people are starting to use San serif as to a younger audience it would be cooler and attract to them. This is because its a clothing brand that young teens have found to them more fashionable.

The lighting is darker around him and is only really lit up on his face as it is trying to show his facial expressions and how he is feeling. Its showing his true feelings about the brand and this makes 50 cent fans like it even more.

In addition the tagline "i am what i am" is shown to represent and relate to the target audience as this is aimed at them with the message to be who you are and the brand clothing can help u be represented in that so trying to market it the products to them.

Firstly the image has a spotlight on the main character on the court which shows he is enlightened and the future. He is on show and proving himself to people and to become the best. This is shown so we know of his skill. Everything around him is dark while he is highlighted to show his skill.

The tagline "basketball never stops" shows the game of basketball is ongoing to generations and passed on almost like passing on the torch to the next generation. Also symbiosis the fact to never give up on basketball and become better at the sport.

The lighting of the picture is there to ensure that the boy is highlighted as a star and ready to ball at a professional level so it is the foreshadowing the future and coming events for the player. This is also showed from the isolation that is being shown as there is no one at the stadium.

Textual analysis

Image result for star wars poster

 1) What type of text is it?
This is a movie poster of a film called star wars the force awakens.#

2) How do you know? What are the key conventions that allowed you to identify the text?
I know this is a movie because of mainly the advertisement at the bottom reveals its a movie and coming to a cinema near you on that date. Also if you look at the central image the main character is holding a weapon that is far more advanced then our day and age. So we can identify that it is a sci-fi film being advertised. Lastly the text on screen is futuristic and is already a well established and reconised name.

3) In your opinion, who is the target audience for this media text?]
I think that this film was targeted to an older audience maybe 16 + because this film is firstly nostalgic to most older people as star wars has been coming out for years. But because of all the weaponry and sci-fi on screen this film is also targeted to teens because this is something teens would enjoy. Also the main character looks young so could relate to younger people more.

4) How would this audience access the text? E.g. where/when would they consume it? Using what device?
Firstly through the cinemas as that is where they are screened first but once its out they can easily watch this on their own t.v and any mobile/tablet devices even a computer and laptop.

5) What values, ideologies and beliefs in society are reinforced or challenged in this media text?
Because the main character on the image is a female this movie could be promoting the subverting of the stereotype that women are week as the main women looks intense and ready to fight.

Film Poster Analysis

Image result for blade runner

Because of the main character is on the top of the poster above all the city, I think he is the hero of the film and a saviour for the world that people will need to look up to for help. So it will be a action type storyline.

The film genres are sci-fi because of the futuristic building, the flying ship and the font at the front of the poster for blade runner. The font has a futuristic look. Also because of the character smoking the cigarette the film has a noir theme to it which is shown by the colour as well.

This film is aimed at middle-aged men 30+ because of the older feel to the sci-fi and because the rated R is at the bottom right of the texts.  #

From the characters faceuail expressions you can tell that is a horror but not one to be taken seriously. This is because of the way some are actually smiling. Also in the text it says more shameless which shows they know it is not scary and is a big joke.

I think the first genre is horror as there is an creepy background that does look Erie but is ultimately an comedy parody as the actors in the film are wearing costumes from other horror films and referencing old film quotes making it a spoof.

This is aimed at teens and adults because of the comedy side to the film. Also older teens as they would understand the reference to old films.

Image result for uzak

The film looks old and run down. The setting at the back shows a grey run down town that looks beat up and also living in harsh environment. The background could reflect his his life and how he lives so the movies plot is a point of view of the man on screen and how he became isolated.

The first genre it could be is a drama as the lake reflects his life so its a reflection point of view drama. Another genre could be European as from the font and the text this movie looks to be European.

This film would appeal to older audiences as the film looks like to have a complex story that most people would not understand.

Image result for i am not scared

This film at first glance looks like a kid film the the protagonist gets over his fear as the image shows a boy overcoming the obstetrical ahead. But because of the text and the font also the color yellow which symbolizes fear i think the movie is for older people and the kid discovering something scary.

The genre is again from around the world as shown from the translated movie text. And also a horror because of the font and color of the word scared.

Mature audiences from 21+ where more targeted.

Image result for sin city

Them film looks like the main protagonist who is walking out of the graveyard which foreshadows the death he will cause to beat them. Trying to go against the people leaders at the top taking them down one by one as they are people with power on top.

The film looks like a action as shown by the guns being held but also a horror by the font of the text and the blood like color.

More 18+ film so teens adults would enjoy this more. But also the older generations as the film is mostly in black and white.

Image result for parts of the caribbean

This looks like three unlikely allies need to team up in order to stop a common threat so four armies up against each other.

The film looks like an action mainly because of the gun indicating they will be trouble/ action. Also because of the pirate ship they called also be a seance of adventure.

This firstly looks like it would be targeted towards teens but when you look at the company who is realizing it its Disney so we know it gonna have loads of family friendly content.

Image result for bride and prejudice

The film looks like two people who maybe at first dont like each other grow to love one another and get married but both have stereotypes about each other that makes them less willing.

This film looks like romantic comedy and a Asian category of film. Mainly because of the fact of the people in the background are all traditional.

This film is aimed at teens because of the compelling story of love and preferably female as they would seem to enjoy this more then men and a Asian decent would like this more.
